On Thursday, December 7, the day before the MSPT Season 8 finale at Canterbury Park, five amateur/recreational players from Northern Minnesota will battle against five pros in the $500 + $30 buy-in “Pros vs. Joes II” SnG that’ll be live streamed worldwide at 7 p.m. with both hole cards and commentary.

Throughout the year, amateur “Joes” have been participating in MSPTfreeroll events at such venues as Todd’s Pub & Grub in Bemidji, Outpost in Deer River, and Daisy Gardens Restaurant in Warroad to qualify for a state tournament, which was held on December 2. That tournament was comprised of 50 players and award the top 10% $1,000 packages ($500 travel and $500 buy-in) to play in “Pros vs. Joes II.”

Among the “Joes” to win their seats are Oliver Loranger, Paul Morton, Margaret Rusch, Keith Abrahamson, and Liz Valdez.

Among the “pros” slated to participate are two-time MSPT champ Matt Kirby, MSPT Season 6 Player of the Year Mark Hodge, WSOP bracelet winner Chad Holloway Ryan Hartmann, and Tom Hammers.

“We’re very excited to welcome top players from the league to play against some of the toughest players in the game,” said MSPT Event Manager Eric Anderson, who’ll provide commentary on the live stream.

The top three players will earn prizes as follows: 1st = $2,500, 2nd = $1,500, and 3rd = $1,000.

In last year’s inaugural “Pros vs. Joes,” which took place in March, MSPT champs Matt Kirby, Tom Stambaugh and Joel Klipping were among the pros to participate, though the title eventually went to one of the “Joes” in Nate Coffin.

After this year’s tournament, both the Joes & Pros will grab drinks at the Canterbury Park bar.
