Day 1B of the latest MSPT Potawatomi – the eighth Main Event held here since 2014 – drew 323 runners, which along with 1A’s 312 brought the total field up to 635 entries. That means the top 72 players will get paid a minimum of $2,028 with the eventual winner taking home $125,958.

After 14 levels of play, 58 players remained with Tyson Boulter and his stack of 478,000 leading the way. That is ahead of Day 1A chip leader James Casen, who bagged 416,500.

Others to bag big stacks were Jesse Allen (249,000), Cole Tautges (220,000), MSPT Maryland Live! champ Greg Himmelbrand (213,000), and Chad Folkens (196,500), who round out the top five.

Joining them at the end of the night were Paul “Big Daddy” Elfelt (191,000), MSPT Season 8 Potawatomi Regional Champ Craig Trost (164,500), MSPT Season 7 Player of the Year Rich Alsup (158,000), WPT champ Ravi Raghavan (157,500), MSPT Season 7 Meskwaki champ Keith Heine (154,000), MSPT Season 5 Ho-Chunk champ Jason Sell (88,000), MSPT Season 2 Canterbury Champ Kou Vang (58,500), and Alex Barill (33,500).

Among those to fall on Day 1B were reigning champ Richard Bai, WSOPC Potawatomi Casino Champ Eddie Blumenthal, EPT4 Copenhagen champ Tim Vance, noted poker author Jim McManus, WSOP bracelet winner John Reading, and former MSPT champs John Sun, Dan Hendrickson, and Blake Bohn, just to name a few.

George Dietz raised under the gun and Umut Ozturk defended his big blind to see a flop.

Ozturk led out for 6,000, Dietz called, and the dealer burned and turned the .

Ozturk bet again, this time 12,000, and Dietz called to see the river.

Ozturk slowed down with a check and Dietz moved all in for his last 19,000. Ozturk made the call with the for two pair on the board with king high, and it was good as Dietz’s had been counterfeited.

The MSPT is actually in two places this weekend. Not only are we here at Potawatomi Casino in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, but we’re also hosting a $360 Regional Event at Golden Gates Casino in Black Hawk, Colorado. That tournament is well underway and will crown a winner on Sunday.

Then, next weekend, we’ll stay at Golden Gates for a $1,100 buy-in, $300,000 guaranteed Main Event.

The last time the MSPT visited the property for a Regional Event was back in November when Gerald Morrell navigated a field of 848 entries to claim the title. In March 2017, 871 entrants packed the poker room and saw Corey Zedo claim the title and a $47,420 prize after a heads-up chop with Drew Schulz. The upcoming stop will mark the seventh time the MSPT will host a Regional Event at the stop.

For the first time as part of the series, the MSPT and Golden Gates will partner to offer a $300 buy-in NLHE Seniors event (50+) on Monday, April 9. We’ve also added a $200 PLO event on Wednesday, April 11. Both events will kick off at noon. Multiple $200 NLHE events will also be offered (Sunday, April 8 and Wednesday, April 11). Those events begin at noon as well.

As for the highly anticipated $1,100 buy-in, $300,000 GTD MSPT Main Event, that event will feature three starting flights beginning with Day 1A at Noon local time on Thursday, April 12. Days 1B and 1C will then be held at the same time on Friday, April 13 and Saturday, April 14 respectively. The remaining players from each flight will combine on Sunday, April 15 at 11:00 a.m. and play until a champion is crowned.

The last time the MSPT visited Golden Gates was back in November when Jason Beasley topped a field of 413 entries to win the Denver Poker Open for $88,134. The time before that, Fred Garcia prevailed over a field of 472 entries to win a $109,881 first-place prize. In November 2016, Carl Carodenuto topped a field of 490 entrants to in his record-breaking third title and a $114,072 first-place prize.

Before that, in April 2016, 439 entrants turned out for the Main Event to more than double the guarantee. Josh Crain emerged victorious in that tournament to capture a $102,199 first-place prize. In November 2015 Phanora Prom topped a field of 510 entries to win $123,180.

Others past winners of the MSPT Golden Gates include Kane Lai, who topped a field of 409 entries to win the March 2015 Main Event for $101,365; Reza Yazdi, who outlasted 499 other entrants to win the November 2014 Main Event for $120,765; and Dan Colpoys, who won $114,156 after emerging victorious over a 453-entry field in March 2014.

We missed the elimination of Michael Dorsey but learned some details after the fact.

Dorsey got his last 45,000 all in preflop holding and was primed to double against a player holding . Unfortunately for Dorsey, the flop fell and his opponent made quads.

Dorsey failed to catch running nines and busted in the penultimate level of the night.
