For the third time this year, The MSPT has returned to the Sycuan Resort Casino with a full scheduled series. 16 events have been scheduled, with 13 events having already occurred. Today begins the first flight of the biggest event, with Day 1A $1,110 Main Event of The United States Poker Championship beginning at 3 pm.
In May this year, Derrick Yamada bested a field of 393 entrants to take home $72,777. Yamada saw his first MSPT trophy claimed on top of the career best score, and will look to win another here for the third stop in Sycuan of the year.

Umut Ozturk is the current leader of the MSPT POY race and with second place in points Rob Wazwaz not coming to this event, it seems likely that Ozturk will hold his lead for the time being. Time will tell as to whether Ozturk will come out to hunt for another trophy, as the race for the MSPT POY is far from over.
Many regulars are expected to play this event, including MSPT champion Ken Baime, as well as Tim Acker, Anthony Bland, Justin Lynch, and DJ Buckley. Each one of them is looking to carve out a piece(or in some cases another piece) of MSPT history for themselves.
Also coming out to the stop is poker celebrity Robbi Jade Lew who is becoming a staple of this poker stop. Jason Mendoza will be in the hunt for his third MSPT final table in a row after winning the event in January and finishing in third in May.
Players will sit down with 30,000 in starting chips with blinds beginning at 100/200 with a 200 big blind ante. Levels will last 40 minutes with a 10-minute break occurring after every three levels. Registration will remain open until the beginning of level 13, after which players will continue play until the end of level 15, or until 12.5% of the field remains. Those players will bag up and return on Sunday at 11 am to play down to a winner.
