While Sean Berman was busy securing his first MSPT title in the Mystery Bounty, the second Main Event of the DeepStack Extravaganza got underway with 140 runners taking their shot in the $1,600.
Almost a full 18 levels were needed to reach 11% of the field with Stanley Weng eliminating Michael Rossitto in the final hand of the evening to lead the 16 advancing players by a wide margin with 761,000.
The top five is rounded out by Landon Brown (600,000), Andrew Rodgers (363,000), and Qing Liu (323,000), with five-time bracelet winner Brian Yoon (241,000), MSPT champ Gerald Cunniff (184,000), and three-time MSPT champ Eric Baldwin (155,000), also finding a Day 2 berth.
Of course, not everyone was fortunate enough to make it through the night.
Among those to fire and fall in Thursdays’ starting flight included Jessica Vierling, WSOP bracelet winner Ankush Mandavia, three-time WSOP bracelet winner Jim Collopy, Andrew Moreno, and MSPT Hall of Famer’s Aaron Massey & Dan “DQ” Hendrickson, who were just a few who took their shot at a bag on Day 1a only to come up short.
All who have yet to advance will have one more starting flight with Day 1b will get underway at 11:10 a.m. on Saturday.
Late registration and re-entries will remain open through Level 9 (approximately 5:55 p.m.).
Full coverage of this event will begin tomorrow so make sure to tune in!
