EVENT RECAP

For the third and final time this season, the MSPT traveled west to the beautiful Sycuan Casino Resort in San Deigo, California, for the 100 GRAND STACK Series!

The 24-Gold Card event series was headlined by the $1,110 buy-in, $300K GTD 100 GRAND STACK Series Main Event, and a total of 431 entries were tallied, generating a $416,570 prize pool.

Sunday saw the final 49 players return for Day 2 action in hopes of claiming the title for themself, and after a nine-hour day, it was Arizona native Peter Brown, who rose to the occasion to secure his first MSPT title, along with a $68,192 first-place prize.

“Feels great”, Brown said after his victory, “This was my first MSPT I’ve ever played, so that's pretty cool to think about”.

Day 2 Action

The final day came back with all 49 players already in the money, so action kicked right into gear with Brett Parise being the first body to drop, followed by Kyle Wang, and MSPT champ Anthony Scarborough, starting a spree of eliminations.

The next batch of players that followed to the payout desk included the likes of Clint Wolcyn (39th Place - $2,242), Kellan Kemp (30th Place - $2,446), MSPT champ John 'Farmboy' Kurfman (25th Place - $2,853), and Rudy Cervantes (24th Place - $3,302).

The fast-paced action continued as back-to-back Player of the Year Umut Ozturk was able to pad his POY and ICON standings with his 18th place finish for $4,484, while last year’s seventh-place finisher Raad Nasouri (17th Place - $4,484), Hal Kilgore (14th Place - $5,299), Kenny Hirose (13th Place - $5,299), and 2024 Sycuan Regional Champ Johnny Groat (10th Place - $6,522) all fell on the way to the final table.

Final Table Action

The final table started with Brown sitting comfortably atop the chip counts until Stephen Graner’s senaky set of fours relinquished his top stack to him, and he fell to the bottom of the pack.

Chips would then start to shuffle around the table until players returned from their dinner break, as Mo Pourmandi found himself making another deep run here at Sycuan until he failed to crack 2023 champ Justin Lynch’s pair of fives to become the first final table elimination.

Shortly after, Joe Asker found himself in a three-way all-in with the worst hand, and fell in eighth place while movie producer Matt Salsberg, followed him to the payout desk in seventh place.

The fast-paced action would continue with Josue Aguirre finding a triple-up to skyrocket to the top of the chip counts, only to lose back-to-back hands to take a sixth-lace exit for $17,119.

From that point, Graner would win two big races to send Brent Gill home in fifth place for $34,334 and MSPT Hall of Famer in fourth place for $35,148.

After the back-to-back eliminations, Graner took the hand off to let Brown set up Lynch in third place for $45,293, and then agreed to take a second-place finish for $54,651 while Brown secured his first MSPT title, along with $68,192.

This wraps up our coverage of our last event at Sycuan this season, but join us as we make our way back to the Venetian Las Vegas for the 2025 Nevada Poker State Championship, September 25th - 28th, and as always, full coverage will be provided by the MSPT reporting team, so make sure to tune in!
