Hoh Leads Advancing 29 Players; WSOP Millionaire Maker Champ Bags Big
Created (4/17/2016 12:02:02 AM by Admin System)

Day 1c of the Mid-States Poker Tour Golden Gates Main Event attracted 140 entries, which means along with Day 1a's 119 and Day 1b's 180 the total field was brought up to 439. That means a $439,000 Total prize pool was created – more than double the advertised $200,000 guarantee despite the blizzard conditions.

After 14 levels of play, just 29 players advanced from Day 1c with Nathan Hoh and his stack of 286,500 leading the way. That is ahead of Day 1b chip leader Shane Faulk (240,500) and Day 1a chip leader Colin Gordon (234,000).

Others who made it through the Day 1c field were World Series of Poker Millionaire Maker champ Adrian Buckley (214,000), local pro Tyler Corbett (184,000), last year's ninth-place finisher Corey Zedo (133,500); Nebraska farmer Phil Mader (120,500); former MSPT Golden Gates runner-up Jonathan McCray (106,000); and last weekend's MSPT Golden Gates Regional champ Stephen Zipprich (61,500).

Obviously not everyone was so fortunate. Among those to fall on Day 1c were WSOP bracelet winner Nick Kost; former MSPT Golden Gates Regional champ Bobby Sanoubane; Svetlana Martie, who had cashed in six out of seven MSPT events at the property but will now see that fall six out of eight; 2013 MSPT Ho-Chunk Gaming Wisconsin Dells champ Josh Reichard; and circuit regular Travis Northrope.

Day 2 will get underway at 11 a.m. local time on Sunday with the plan of playing all the way down to a winner. Of course we'll be here every step of the way to capture all the action and eliminations, so be sure to check back tomorrow. Until then, goodnight from Black Hawk, Colorado!

Reichard Fails to Make Day 2
Created (4/16/2016 11:17:57 PM by Admin System)

Josh Reichard

After a player opened from the cutoff, former MSPT champ Josh Reichard three-bet jammed from the big blind for 35,000. A call was made and it was off to the races.

Reichard: kd jd

Opponent: 10x 10x

The 10d 8d 8x flop left Reichard drawing to runner-runner, and another 8x on the turn meant the only way he’d survive would be to catch the case eight on the river. That didn’t happen though as a 4x peeled off instead.

Collett Overcomes the Ladies
Created (4/16/2016 11:09:39 PM by Admin System)

After a player opened for 6,000 from early position, Shawn Collett jammed for 23,700 from the hijack. The player in the big blind then four-bet all in over the top for 29,300 and the original raiser got out of the way.

Collett: ah jh

Opponent: qd qs

Collett needed some help, and he got it big time when the 4h ac 5h flop hit him hard. The 8h gave him a flush to lock up the hand, and he shipped the double after the 2d was run out on the river.

Wilkie Sent Off By Walking Sticks
Created (4/16/2016 11:07:19 PM by Admin System)

Phil Mader opened for 4,500 from early position and Rudy Stanko called from middle position. Max Chrisp came along from the small blind, and then Steve Wilkie three-bet all in for 24,000 from the big blind. Mader took his time before moving all in over the top, which scared the other two off the hand.

Mader: 7d 7s

Wilkie: ac jc

It was a flip, but Wilkie needed to improve to stay alive. However, that was easier said than done as the board ran out 5s 8s2d 3s 3d to give Mader the win.

Phil Mader - 130,000

Steve Wilkie - Busted

Chrisp vs. Stanko
Created (4/16/2016 11:03:25 PM by Admin System)

Jonathan McCray limped from early position and Rudy Stanko did the same from the cutoff. TJ Thondup came along from the small blind, and then Max Chrisp exercised his option in the big with a raise to 7,000. Only Stanko called to see the 10s 2s 8s flop and then he called a bet of 12,000 from Chrisp.

After the dealer burned and turned the 2d, Chrisp checked and then folded when Stanko moved all in for 19,000.

Max Chrisp - 130,000

Rudy Stanko - 65,000

MSPT Heads to Michigan for First Time in Season 7 May 7-15
Created (4/16/2016 10:48:07 PM by Admin System)

Thus far Season 7 of the Mid-States Poker Tour has visited properties in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Florida, and Colorado. From May 7-15, the MSPT will cross the border into Michigan for its seventh-ever stop at FireKeepers Casino in Battle Creek.

"Michigan is home to some tough poker players, from two-time MSPT champ Jason Zarlenga to former World Series of Poker Main Event champs Joe Cada and Ryan Riess," said MSPT owner and operator Bryan Mileski. "FireKeepers has proven one of the most competitive stops on the tour, and we look forward to another successful event leading into the summer."

Dozens of satellites will be held in the weeks and days leading up to the Main Event, which will run from Thursday, May 12 through Sunday, May 15. That $1,100 buy-in event will feature three starting flights beginning with Day 1a at 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 12. Days 1b and 1c will then be held at Noon on Friday, May 13 and Saturday, May 14 respectively. Then, on Sunday, May 15, the surviving players from each flight will return to play down to a winner.

The final table will be broadcast LIVE (15-minute delay) worldwide on msptpoker.com using RFID technology allowing all viewers to see the hole cards. In addition, the entire Main Event will be live reported in the MSPT's brand new live blog, which can be found on msptpoker.com once the tournament begins. Simply look for the neon green button that reads "Live Updates."

The last time the MSPT visited FireKeepers was back in October, which is when Michael Ferrarotti topped a field of 559 entries to win a $134,642 first-place prize. Other past winners of the event include:

- Harry Tisdale, who topped a field of 614 entries in May 2015 to win $142,637.

- Ryan Dykhouse, who prevailed over 517 entries to win $124,500 in October 2014.

- Jason Zarlenga, who outlasted 410 other entrants to win $101,482 in May 2014.

- Jordan Townsend, who topped a field of 301 entries to win $76,975 in August 2013.

- Tom Midena, who bested a field of 272 entries in the inaugural event to capture a $73,456 first-place prize.

"With each MSPT tournament series we have experienced an increase in player participation as well as notoriety for being a stop on the tour," Kelley Bailey, Poker Manager at FireKeepers, previously told PokerNews. "MSPT has done a wonderful job in expanding their product and establishing their brand in the premier tournament arena. We are pleased to continue to offer players in Michigan and surrounding areas the opportunity to play in this tournament series."

World Series of Poker Millionaire Maker champ Adrian Buckley opened for 4,500 from middle position and the player on the button shoved for roughly 30,000. Both blinds folded and Buckley snap-called.

Buckley: da as

Buckely was well out in front, and that’s where he stayed as the board ran out 6d2d kd qs 5h.
