Ralph Kingan Leads Day 1B Field After 29 Players Advance
Created (10/22/2023 3:07:21 AM by Anthony Thompson)

The second and final starting flight of the Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) 2023 MSPT Deadwood Shootout is in the books!

Day 1b attracted 214 runners during Saturday's action, bringing the grand total to 374 entries (160 from Day 1a; 214 from 1b) which was enough to blast past the $200K guarantee.

The field generated a $361,280 prize pool and the top 45 players will get paid a minimum of $1,987, while the eventual winner will walk away with a $79,482 first-place prize, along with the coveted custom Deadwood Shootout trophy!

After the completion of Level 15, just 29 players bagged with Ralph Kingan (551,000) edging out Day 1a’s Steve Chastain (541,000) to take the overall chip lead into Day 2.

Preston Dean (437,000) ended the night as the only other player to eclipse the 400k mark, while Season 14 POY leader Umut Ozturk (372,000), Leo Valenzuela (367,000), and Alex Wheeler (333,000) round out the top five stacks.

Others to punch their tickets to Day 2 were defending Deadwood Shootout champ Chris Burke (328,000), MSPT Hall of Famer Josh Reichard (281,000), 2021 Deadwood Shootout champ Mark Steffen (218,000), and MSPT Hall of Famer Matt Kirby (204,000).

The surviving players from all three flights – of which there are 48 (19 from Day 1a and 29 from 1b) – will return at 11:00 a.m. local time tomorrow and will play down to a winner.
