Jon Hanner Leads 18 Survivors After Day 1A of Main Event

Day 1A of the Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) Running Aces $1,110 Main Event is officially in the books with 161 total entries tallied by night's end.

A full 13 levels were played to completion but a hard stop with 18 players saw the night end with 38:40 remaining in Level 14.

Jon Hanner (525,000) leads the pack by after finishing the night with an exclamation mark, earning knockouts on the penultimate hand of the evening, edging out Joe Barnard (432,000), and 2014 MSPT Running Aces champ Mark Sandness (424,000) for the top spot.

The top five is rounded out by two other players who finished the day north of 300,000: Marc Harrell (375,00), and Thai Dinh (313,000).

The action hit a new gear in the final levels of the evening, which saw the remaining players in the field ultimately drop from 28 down to 18.

Others to survive the first starting flight were Kitkat Klassen (265,000), Derek Normand (198,000), Matt Alexander (151,000) and MSPT champ Brian Soja (87,000).

Day 1B will get underway at Noon on Friday, March 31st. Late registration and re-entries will remain open through Level 12 (approximately 9:10 p.m.).

Bohn Prevails in Hall of Fame Battle

Action folded to four-time MSPT champ Blake Bohn who raised all in from the button and fellow MSPT Hall of Famer Kou Vang called off his stack from the big blind.

Vang woke-up with another made hand in the big blind and the flop didn’t change a thing.

The turn was safe for Vang and he was looking good to score a double until the dealer dropped the on the river ended his Day 1A run.

For the past week, poker players have crowded the Running Aces poker room in Columbus MN, duking it out for the MSPT's Minnesota State Poker Championship!

In Event #5: $250 NLH Turbo Monster Stack, 110 runners were tallied through the registration period, generating a $22,000 prize pool that was paid out to the top 12 players.

Among those to cash but fall before the final table were Mathew Lenz (10th - $462), Vic Peppe (11h - $462), and Levi Ahrens (12th - $462).

Coming out on top was White Bear lake's own Timothy Sharlow, who had a speedy victory to $4,500 top prize, along with the MSPT trophy.

Action on the table folded to the button who tossed out their 25,000 starting stack and MSPT Hall of Famer Kou Vang snap-called from the big blind.

Vang woke-up with a monster and the flop didn’t change a thing.

The turn did give Vang’s opponent a Broadway draw, but the paired the board on the river and sent his opponent packing.

Joe Barnard raised to 5,000 from the cutoff and was called by the small blind, along with reigning MSPT Running Aces champ Blake Bohn from the big blind.

Once the flop hit the felt, action was checked to Bohn who moved all-in for 43,500.

Action was on Barnard who isolated after going over the top for roughly 250,000.

Bohn was behind needing help, but neither the turn nor the river improved his hand as Barnard collected the pot.

Action folded to Mat Foucault who raised to 5,500 from the small blind before calling the 49,000 three-bet jam Kitkat Klassen made from the big blind.

Klassen didn’t like what she saw after the cards were tabled but didn’t mind the flop that gave her the spade flush draw.

The turn paired both players with Klassen needing help on the river to stay alive.

Luckily for Klassen, the dealer answered her prayer and dropped the on the river to secure her double-up with the nuts.
