Matt Salsberg Leads 13 Survivors After Day 1A of Main Event
Created (1/12/2024 1:44:25 AM by Anthony Thompson)

Day 1a of The Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) Season 15 $1,110 Main Event opener at Sycuan Casino & Resort in Sand Diego, California, has come to a close after seeing 114 entrants kick things off.

Almost a full day of action was played to completion with the hard stop of 13 players being reached with 10:25 remaining in the final level.

Typically, judging the chip leader comes down to the wire, and that was the case for Matt Salsberg who sat atop the counts for majority of the evening but had a roller coaster ride in the later levels which ended with him with putting a whopping 647,000 in his bag to lead the pack.

Robby Mier was a late arrival, but that didn't stop him from running up a 462,000 stack which was good enough for second place as he edged out 2021 Sycuan Regional champ Chris Smith who put 443,00 in his bag to end the night.

Rounding out the top five stacks were Luis Montano (350,000), and Josh Mok (293,000) with MSPT champ Derrick Yamada (175,000) also finding a Day 2 berth.

Among those to try and fall on Day 1a included MSPT champ Chance Kornuth, Sherry Hammers, Jessica Vierling, and Adam Swan just to name a few.

Those players, as well as any newcomers, have two more starting flights to jump back into action. Day 1b will kick off at 3:00 p.m. local time Friday, while the third and final flight, Day 1c, will take place at the same time on Saturday.

The surviving players from each flight will then return at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday to play down to a winner.

Join us tomorrow as we continue to bring you all the action and eliminations straight from the tournament floor at Sycuan Casino & Resort!
