Tye Rogers Leads as 18 Advance from Day 1B of the 2018 MSPT Denver Poker Open at Golden Gates Casino

The second of three starting flights in the 2018 MSPT Denver Poker Open $1,100 Main Event drew 109 runners, which along with 1A’s 78 brought the current field up to 186 entries with Saturday’s Day 1C still to go.

After nearly 15 levels of play, just 18 players remained with Tye Rogers of Boulder, Colorado and his stack of 350,500 leading the pack. That is a bit ahead of 1A chip leader Bobby Opila, who made it through on Thursday with 330,500.

Others to bag included Richard Monroe (214,000), WSOP bracelet winner John “KasinoKrime” Beauprez (170,000), Minnesota’s Matt Weller (164,500), Danny Gonzalez (46,500), and Matt Nelson (50,000), who freerolled his way into the Main Event via a local Denver poker bar league.

Of course, not everyone was fortunate enough to make it through the night. Among those to try and fall were MSPT Season 9 Golden Gates Regional champ Bobby Faecher, MSPT Hall of Famer Kou Vang, World Series of Poker bracelet winners Adrian Buckley, Mitch Schock Ben Keeline, and Chris Tryba.

Day 1C, the third and final flight, will get underway at Noon local time on Saturday. The surviving players from each flight will then return on Sunday to play down to a winner.

The entirety of the Main Event will be live reported here in the blog, while the final table action will also be live streamed worldwide on a 15-minute delay with hole cards. Bryan Mileski and Ben Valder will be providing commentary for the final table action.

Andreas Ramadanis Doubles Through Dapo Ajayi

Andreas Ramadanis moved all in for 41,300 from the cutoff and Dapo Ajayi jammed for a bit more from the small blind to isolate.

It was a flip but Ramadanis needed to improve to stay alive. He failed to do so on the flop but the turn was just what he was looking for. The river was no help to Ajayi and he sent most of his chips across the table.

Tye Rogers, Bluff Catcher

Keith Wright limped in from the button, and Tye Rogers limped in from the small blind. Kent Biel checked his option in the big blind, and the trio took to a flop together.

Action checked to Wright, who bet 6,500. Rogers called and Biel folded.

Both players checked the turn, and Rogers checked a third time on the river. Wright bet 13,000, and Rogers called after some thought.

Wright turned over for a pure bluff, and said, “Ooooooh, nice call!” after Rogers flipped over for tens and sevens and the winner.

Andreas Ramadanis Jams the Turn

Kipp Smith raised to 6,500 from early position and then called when Andreas Ramadanis three-bet to 17,000 from the cutoff.

Ramadanis continued for 16,000 on the flop and Smith check-called.

After the dealer burned and turned the , Smith checked again and Ramadanis jammed for 32,000.

Smith thought for nearly two minutes before laying down his hand.

You Can Call Him "Miracle" Mike Monetti, Now

Dapo Ajayi moved in from the small blind to put Mike Monetti at risk for his last 19,400, and Ajayi obliged him with a call.

Monetti ran into rockets, but the flop gave him a little hope with some backdoor outs. The turn gave Monetti a flush draw, and the table erupted when the fell on the river, giving Monetti a flush and a very unlikely victory over Ajayi’s aces.

Stephen Patch Has All The Luck

Stephen Patch, sporting an Indianpolis Colts’ Andrew Luck jersey, raised to 7,000 from the cutoff, and Kanat Ozturk called on the button. Matt Schierenberg three-bet jammed for 25,000 from the small blind, and Patch called after confirming the amount. Ozturk folded and the hands were revealed.

Chris Barrett got his short stack of around 15,000 all in preflop and found himself in dire straits against WSOP bracelet winner John Beauprez.
