Gene Glenn Leads 25 Survivors After Day 1A
Created (9/1/2023 1:12:25 AM by Anthony Thompson)

If anyone predicted that the Day 1a turnout at JACK Cleveland Casino was going to compete with the record-breaking field in February, they were right.

The first of three starting flights closed with 224 entries, putting it on par with the record-setting 226 total entries of Day 1a set earlier this year.

After a hard stop was reached with 24:20 remaining in Level 15, just 25 players were able to find a Day 2 berth with Gene Glenn (676,000) edging out Adam Schaffer (646,000) for the top spot.

Glenn rode a rollercoaster at the end of the night as he came back from the final break with just over 70,000 and was able to build that up to a 350,000 stack until he turned a set of tens in the final hand of the night to take the chip lead.

Unlike Glenn, Schaffer climbed to the top of the counts at the beginning of the day and able to stay there for the majority of it.

Just like Schaffer, Mark Zullo was able to hold one of the top spots throughout the day and will take 628,000 into Day 2.

Rounding out the top five stacks are Mark Lewandowski (536,000), and Chade Hounshell (503,000) who were the only other players to bag north of 500k.

The action hit a new gear in the final two levels of the evening, which saw the remaining players in the field ultimately drop from 43 down to 25.

Among those to try and fall on 1a include MSPT Hall of Famer's Blake Bohn, Rich Alsup, Rob WazWaz & Pat Steele, two-time MSPT champ' Ken Baime, and WSOP bracelet winner Katie Kopp.

Those players, as well as any newcomers, have two more starting flights to jump back in the action.

Day 1b will kick off at 12:15 p.m. local time on Friday, while the third and final flight, Day 1c, will take place at the same time on Saturday.

The surviving players from each flight will then return at 11:15 a.m. on Sunday to play down to a winner.

Join us tomorrow as we continue to bring you all the action and eliminations straight from the tournament floor of the JACK Cleveland Casino!
