Derrick Brown Takes Overall Chip Lead into Day 2 After 50 Players Advance from Day 1C

Day 1c of the Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) JACK Cleveland $1,110 Main Event attracted another 424 runners, which, along with 1a's 224 and 1b’s 336, brought the field total up to 960 entries.

At the end of the third and final flight, 50 players bagged and tagged with Michigan’s Derrick Brown bagging the top stack with 694,000, good enough for the overall chip lead.

Others to bag big stacks where Alex Jagodik (580,000), Steve Zimmerman (577,000), Filippos Stavrakis (554,000), and Yousef Zeibaq (542,000), who round out the top five.

They were joined by MSPT champ’s that include Veerab Zakarian (537,000), Umut Ozturk (485,000), Gerald Cunniff (267,00), and MSPT Hall of Famer Rob WazWaz (234,000).

Among previous MSPT Main Event Hall of Famer’s who fell short one Day 1c included Rich Alsup, Matt Kirby, and Josh Reichard.

Day 2 will get underway at 11:15 a.m. local time and play to a winner with 113 players (25 from Day 1a, 38 from 1b, and 50 from 1c) returning to the felt.

Zeibaq Flushes Jeffery in Final Hand; Hard Stop Reached

Joe Jeffery was all in from the big blind for just under 200,000 after a flop and was called by Yousef Zeibaq from the button.

Zeibaq flopped the flush but wasn’t out of the water as Jeffery held the nut flush draw.

Unfortunately for Jeffery, neither the turn nor the river improved his hand, and he was the final elimination of the night as the hard stop of 50 players has been reached with 38:30 remaining in the final level.

Gambino Rivers Lucky Seven to Score Double Knockout

Angela Gambino open-jammed 61,000 from under the gun and Terence Reid called off his 50,000 stack from the cutoff.

Action was on Michael Scarborough who decided to risk his 54,000 stack as well from the button and the tree players tabled their hands.

Reid was ahead holding a made hand of snowmen, but they melted after an ace appeared in the window on the flop.

The turn didn’t change a thing and Scarborough was looking good to score the pot until the dealer peeled off the on the river giving Gambino a full house to score the double elimination.

Cunniff Rivers Broadway to Drop Alsup

MSPT Hall of Famer Rich Alsup limped-in under the and action folded to MSPT champ Gerald Cunniff who raised to 15,000 from the cutoff.

Action folded back to Alsup who ripped his 70,000 stack in the middle and Cunniff called holding slightly more.

Alsup was ahead holding a pair of ladies and the flop didn’t change a thing.

The turn however, made things very interesting as it not only gave Alsup top set, but also gave Cunniff straight and flush draws heading to the river.

Unfortunately for the Alsup, a black card fell on the river, but it was the giving Cunniff the nuts to end the MSPT Hall of Famer’s tournament.

Matt Hamilton was all in preflop from the big blind for just over 60,000 and was called by Katie Kopp from the cutoff.

Hamilton was behind needing help but the flop put him in a further hole as it gave Kopp a set of tens.

The turn kept Hamilton live with a Broadway draw, but the completed the board on the river and eliminated him from the tournament.
