Matthew Rice Takes Overall Chip Lead to Day 2

Day 1c of the MSPT (Mid-States Poker Tour) Season 15 Showdown Series Bally's Black Hawk $1,110 Main Event drew 255 entries, the biggest field of all three starting flights, bringing the overall field up to 606.

The combined fields generated a $586,320 prize pool, paying a minimum of $2,160, while the eventual winner will walk away with a $123,059 first-place prize.

At the end of the third and final flight, 28 players bagged and tagged with Matthew Rice bagging the overall chip lead with a whopping 1,066,000.

Rice caught seam at the end of the night leaping Sherman Wu (845,000) & Tanner Stiverson (812,000), who were the only other players to bag north of 800k.

They were joined by Scott Hovarth (497,000), Jason Moyer (425,000), and Ken Rabideau (,413000).

The surviving players from all three flights – of which there are 65 (13 from Day 1a, 24 from 1b, and 28 from 1c) – will return at 11:00 a.m. local time on Sunday, July 28th to play down to a winner.

Popejoy Loses Race to Tschinkel on the Bubble; Play Has Ended

Michael Popejoy raised all in for 14,000 from late position and found three callers which included Adam Tschinkel from the small blind.

Once the flop hit the felt, Tschinkel led out into the dry pot giving Popejoy isolation.

Popejoy was at risk needing some help, but the turn left him needing a deuce on the river to stay alive.

Unfortunately for Popejoy, the completed the board and made him the final elimination of the evening.

Son Nguyen Tames a Nightly Monster

The MSPT returned to the beautiful mountainside of Black Hawk, Colorado for its second stop of the 15th season, and players have been inside Bally's Casino duking it out over the past week for its Showdown Series

In Event #14: $250 No-Limit Hold'em Monster Stack Nightly, 137 hunters took to the trenches and created a $27,400 prize pool, that was reserved for the top 15 players.

Among those to cash but fall before the final table were Joshua Jacobs (10th Place - $562), Leann Burris (11th Place - $562), Andrew Peragallo (12th Place - $562), Chris Quackenbush (13th Place - $466), Scott Beale (14th Place - $466), and Robert Schneegas (15th Place - $466).

In the end, it was Son Nguyen who tamed the monster field to take down the lion's share of the prize pool along with the Sapdey trophy!
