Brett "Pops" Reichard Leads 12 Survivors After Day 1A of the MSPT Season 16 Missouri Poker State Championship!

Day 1a of the MSPT Season 16 $1,110 Missouri State Poker Championship at Hollywood Casino has come to a close after seeing 111 entrants kick things off.

Almost a full day of action was played to completion with the hard stop of 12 players being reached with 13:56 remaining in Level 15 (3,000/6,000/6,000).

The final level was full of eliminations which saw chip leader Brett “Pops” Reichard’s 500k stack balloon to 739,000 to end the night, leading the first batch of players into Day 2.

Minnesota’s Clint Wolcyn was able to secure the final elimination of MSPT Hall of Famer Josh Reichard to end the night second in chips with a healthy 516,000 while Ryan Webb (405,000), Kevin Berthelsen (308,000), and Mike Hurley (286,000) rounded out the top five stacks of the flight.

Others who found a Day 2 berth included Cory Bogert (255,000), Michael Hotop (243,000), Dale Walters II (183,000), MSPT champ Keith Heine (248,000), and Glen "The Cannon" Gruner (54,000), with Heine locking up his 25th Main Event to earn his seat into the coveted MSPT Hall of Fame!

Among those to try and fall on Day 1a included MSPT Hall of Famer Aaron Johnson, MSPT champ Earl Potter, Brett Hagopian, two-time MSPT champ Taylor Howard and defending champ Jeffrey Copeland, just to name a few.

Those players, as well as any newcomers, have two more starting flights to jump back into action. Day 1b will kick off at 2:00 p.m. local time Friday, while the third and final flight, Day 1c, will take place at the same time on Saturday.

The surviving players from each flight will then return at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday to play down to a winner.

Brett “Pops” Reichard opened under the gun with a raise only to have Mike Hurley three-bet jam for 130,000 from the small blind, and Tyler Breeding go over the top from the big blind, giving him isolation.

Hurley rolled over the inferior made hand with not much changing after the flop hitting the felt.

The turn, however, fell the giving Hurley more outs with the spade flush draw but he didn’t need it, as the dealer peeled off the on the river to secure his double-up with a set of fours.

MSPT Hall of Famer Josh Reichard raised from the hijack and then called Cory Bogert’s 84,000 three-bet jam from the big blind.

Bogert was racing for his tournament life and took the lead after the flop gave him top two-pair.

The turn was a welcoming sight for Bogert as it secured him the pot while the dealer dropped the meaningless on the river to secure his double.

Action then folded back to Reichard who debated for a few moments before ultimately making the call.

Patrick Ray Strolls Away the Top Senior

Over the past week inside the Hollywood Casino in St. Louis MO, duking it out for the MSPT Season 16 Missouri Poker State Championship!

In Event #4: $300 NLH Seniors, 165 walkers strolled to the tables and created a $73,500 prize pool which was reserved for the top 18 seniors.

Among those to cash but fall before the final table were Kevin Shipp (11th Place - $768), Greg Wood (13th Place - $647), William Rowse (16th Place - $586), and Walter Mickey (17th Place - $566).

Strolling away the top senior was Patrick Ray who took down the lion's share of the prize pool, along with the Sapdey trophy!
