Four-Time MSPT Champ Dan Bekavac Takes Flight to Lead 16 Advancing Players After Day 1D

Day 1d of the MSPT Season 16 100 GRAND STACK $1,110 Main Event at Sycuan Casino & Resort is in the books as another 148 entries were tallied bringing the total thus far to 426.

With action needing to play down to 11% of the field, almost full 16 levels were needed to hit that mark with the hard stop being reached with 10:20 remaining at 10,000/20,000/20,000 with only 16 players making it through to Day 2.

Of those 16 players, it was none other than four-time MSPT champ Dan Bekavac who found himself atop the chip counts at the end of the night bagging 2,250,000, good enough for second overall thus far.

After taking a cooler in the final level, Bekavac was able to make quick work to spin up the top stack being the only player to break the two-milly mark this flight.

Peter Cross (1,465,000), Nissar Quraishi (1,440,000), Clint Wolcyn (1,285,000), and 2023 MSPT Sycuan Regional champ Eddie Pilotin (1,125,000) rounded out the top five stacks of this flight while ’Big’ Kev Meyers (1,055,000), and David Berger (1,035,000) were the only other players to clip the milly mark.

Others who found a Day 2 berth during this flight included 2024 Sycuan champ Noel Eicher (700,000), Tim Acker (655,000), Tara Dunn (640,000), and MSPT top casher DJ Buckley (230,000) were just a few more of the players to add their names to the 29 players already on the Day 2 roster.

Among those to try and fall on Day 1c included Event #4 winner Ben Levy, Scott Aulds, Travis Tachibana, Riley Dieckhoff, and Event #2 winner Aviram Parsha, just to name a few.

Quraishi Scoops with Nut Flush

Nissar Quraishi opened for 50,000 from middle position and four-time MSPT champ Dan Bekavac called from the hijack to see a flop.

Action went check-check, and the paired the board on the turn.

Quraishi led out with a 100,000 bet and Bekavac tossed out a call to see the complete the board on the river.

Quraishi took initiative leading out once again for 300,000 only to call a 775,000 raise from Bekavac.

Bekavac rolled over for the flush, but it was second best as Quraishi showed to scoop the pot.

For the second stop of the 16th season, the MSPT traveled to Sycuan Casino & Resort in San Diego, CA to host the inaugural 100 GRAND STACK Festival!

In Event #6: $300 Pot-Limit Omaha, 31 four-card specialists took to the tables, and in the end, it was Andy Chang who claimed the top spot to take home the 100 GRAND STACK Festival trophy!

Pilotin Straightens Out Tachibana's Top Set of Aces

A series of preflop raises led to Travis Tachibana getting his 365,000 stack in the middle from early position and Eddie Pilotin went over the top from under the gun giving him isolation.

Tachibana rolled over a pair of aces but had a sweat after the flop fell giving Pilotin an open-ended straight draw.

Unfortunately for Tachibana, the hit the turn giving him top set, but it also gave Pilotin Broadway and the completed the board on the river ending Tachibana’s run.

MSPT Heads to Bally's Black Hawk Casino for the Season 16 Showdown Series January 15th - 26th!

The third stop of the 16th season will see the MSPT head to the beautiful mountainside of Black Hawk, Colorado, as we return to Bally's Casino for the Showdown Series January 15th - 26th!

A total of 17 trophy events will take place during the two-week span, with the $400 Monster Stack Kickoff NLH getting things started at noon on Wednesday, January 15th.

The opening event boasts a $100k guarantee and will hold four starting flights with Day 1b following Thursday, January 16th, Day 1c Friday, January 17th, and Day 1d Saturday, January 18th, all with noon start times.

The survivors from all flights will then reconvene at 11:00 for Day 2 on Monday, January 20th, and will play until a winner is crowned.

The following trophy events will then feed into the headlined $1,110 Main Event running from Thursday, January 23rd through Sunday, January 26th, which will feature a $300K guarantee for its three starting flights.

Last season saw the MSPT crown two Main Event Champions at Black Hawk with Mo Nuwwarah taking down the opener after he outlasted 822 runners for $155,189 while Sherman Wu became the reigning champ after he topped a 606-entry field to take home his fist title along with $123,059.

Who will be next to add their names to the list of aforementioned champions?

Tara Dunn was all in preflop for 300,000 from early position and was called by her opponent directly to her left.

It was a classic with Dunn falling behind after the flop hit the felt.

The turn was no help to Dunn as she was left with one card remaining and luckily for her, the dealer came to her rescue by dropping the on the river to secure her double-up.
