A lengthy day of 16 Levels has wrapped up during the MSPT $1,110 Iowa State Poker Championship at Riverside Casino as Day 1b drew 198 entries to bring the two-day total thus far to 296, making sure the $300K GTD will be eclipsed with tomorrow’s final two starting flights.

Of those 198 entries, only 21 players remained when chips went into bags, and it was Mike Estes who went on a late-night heater to bag the top stack.

Estes was able to win a big flip late with Big Slick against Steve WazWaz’s pocket tens, putting 588,000 in his bag at the end of the night edging out Matt Dodd (544,000), and Trey Bartlett (510,000) for the top stack of this flight.

Rounding out the top five stacks were Mark Lafata (505,000), and Jessica Anderson (420,000) while Jerry Hapunik (410,000) was the only other player to bag north of 400k.

Much like Day 1a, the final levels of the night saw an onslaught of casualties, with players such as MSPT Hall of Famer Rich Alsup, along with two-time MSPT champ Chris Meyers among those to be eliminated before play concluded for the night with chips flying all across the remaining tables.

Several other familiar players will also be joining the aforementioned five. Justin Gish (337,000), Stave Pham (258,000), Nic DiTrapani (258,000), Andy Rogowski (191,000), and defending champ Jake Wilding (189,000) are just a few more of the players to add their names to the Day 2 roster along with the 10 to have already advanced from Day 1a.

The final two starting flights will get underway tomorrow with Day 1c getting started bright and early at 10:00 a.m. while Day 1d will follow at 3:00 p.m.

MSPT Riverside Remaining Schedule

The player under the gun tossed their remaining 2,000 in the middle and Matt Dodd and Trey Bartlett checked their options from the blinds.

The flop was checked to the m turn where Dodd check-folded to a 8,000 bet from Bartlett.

Both players held a pair of nines, but Bartlett held the better kicker as the river secured him the final elimination of the night.

Yesterday’s starting flight saw MSPT Hall of Famer Josh Reichard bag a massive 681,000 stack leading the 10 players who advanced from a 98-entry field, and the 21 players who make it through today will join that group on Sunday, July 21st at 11:00 a.m. for Day 2.

Day 1A Chip Counts

Action quickly folded to Dan McFate who raised the button only to call off his 170,000 stack after Trey Bartlett three-bet jammed for more from the big blind.

McFate was behind holding two overs and didn’t mind the flop that gave him more outs with a Broadway draw.

The turn fell the keeping Bartlett in the lead and McFate needed to connect with the river to stay alive, but the completed the board and ended his night.

Once again, the MSPT is headed to Grand Falls Casino in Larchwood, IA from August 9th - 11th!

A series of $70 and $265 satellites will feed into the $1,110 buy-in MSPT261 Main Event, which requires players be 21+ to play.

The tournament, which boasts a $300K GTD, will offer two starting flights with Day 1a beginning at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 9th, with Day 1b following suit at the same time on Saturday, August 10th.

The surviving players from the starting flights will return at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 11th, to play down to a winner.

Also, on that Sunday, there will be a $250 NLH Last Chance Showdown Event beginning at Noon.

A player from middle position open-jammed 180,000 and Jessica Anderson went over the top from the cutoff giving them isolation.

Anderson was ahead holding a pair of queens and the flop didn’t change that fact.

The turn did bring the possibility of a chop if a seven were to fall on the river, but the completed the board and secured her the elimination.

At the halfway point of the 15th season, the MSPT traveled back to Riverside Casino to host its first trophy event series.

In Event #2: $200 No-Limit Hold'em Epic Stack, 195 epic players went to the felt and generated a $31,200 prize pool that was paid out to the top 21 players.

Among those to cash but fall before the final table were Brian Caroll (10th Place - $593), Tracy Porter (11th Place - $593), Gwen Martin (14th Place - $468), John Dillon (16th Place - $406), Nicholas Lentz (18th Place - $406), and Chandon Hinton (21st Place - $374).

Coming out on top was David Kalinchinsky of Milan, IL who claimed the $8,112 top prize, along with the second Sapdey trophy of the series!

Phil Mader was all in preflop for 66,000 from the hijack and was called by Mark Lafata from middle position.

The paired the board on the turn while the river completed Mader’s straight and secured his double-up.
