Jason Sater Leads as 175 of 1,312 Survive Day 1C of MSPT Venetian
Created (6/6/2018 3:28:04 AM by Admin System)

Day 1C of the $1,100 buy-in, $3.5 million guarantee MSPT Venetian Main Event attracted 1,312 runners, which along with 1A’s 477 and 1B’s 750 brought the total field up to 2,539 with just one flight remaining.

After 15 levels of player in Hall G of the Sands Expo Center, the field was whittled down to 175 players with Jason Sater and his stack of 770,500 leading the way. That is ahead of both of Gavin O’Rourke (530,000) and David McConachie (426,000), who finished as the Day 1B and 1A chip leaders respectively.

Thus far, 343 players (63 from 1A, 105 1B, and 175 1C) have punched their ticket to Thursday’s Day 2. Others to bag big stacks on 1C were Aleksandras Rusinovas (528,500), Kevin Albers (528,500), Jonatan Simchon (425,500), and Kuppuraj Mohan (411,000), who round out the top five.

They were joined by Mike Del Vecchio (295,000), Kyle Julius (264,000), MSPT Season 7 FireKeepers champ Aaron Massey (262,000), 2017 MSPT Wisconsin State Poker Champ Richard Bai (217,000), Maurice Hawkins (199,500), MSPT Season 5 Running Aces champ (150,000), and MSPT Pro Blake Bohn (141,500).

Of course, not everyone was fortunate enough to find a bag. Among those to hit the rail on 1C were 2016 MSPT Wisconsin State Poker champ Andy Rubinberg, two-time MSPT champs Johnny Hayes and Greg Himmelbrand, Poker Hall of Famer Scotty Nguyen, 2007 WSOP Main Event champ Jerry Yang, MSPT Season 6 Player of the Year Mark Hodge, WSOP bracelet winner Chris Tryba, poker vlogger Matt Vaughan, and two-time bracelet winner Loni Harwood.

The fourth and final starting flight will begin at Noon local time on Wednesday. It’s expected to be the biggest yet with a chance of alternates, so be sure to take that into account.

Nick Jivkov vs. Nicholas Depalma in Wild Hand
Created (6/6/2018 2:12:29 AM by Admin System)

A wacky hand just played out here in the closing minutes of Day 1C.

It began when the player on the button opened for 7,600 and MSPT Meskwaki champ Nick Jivkov (pictured left) called from the small blind. Nicholas Depalma (right) then three-bet to 21,000 from the big, the original raiser folded, and Jivkov slid in a stack for a four-bet to 102,600.

Depalma thought that it had him covered and said, “Call.” He then tabled the not knowing he actually had 31,300 left over.

Much to the amusement of the table, the hand proceeded to the flop, which came down . Surprisingly, Jivkov moved all in and of course Depalma called off.

“You already there?” Depalma asked. Jivkov replied in the negative before showing his hand -- the for straight and flush draws.

The table oohed and awed at how things unfolded. The dealer then burned and turned the , which was a brick for Jivkov.

Depalma just needed to survive the river, and he did when the safe peeled off.

Nicholas Depalma - 270,000 (90 bb)
Nick Jivkov - 22,000 (7 bb)

Kuppuraj Mohan Fades The World
Created (6/6/2018 1:55:27 AM by Admin System)

Kuppurai Mohan

Three players built up a pot of 21,000 and saw a flop together. Kuppuraj Mohan bet 10,200 from the small blind, and the player UTG+1 called. The button then jammed for 47,300, and after a little bit of thought, Mohan called, as did the UTG+1 player.

The fell on the turn, and Mohan jammed to put his opponent all in for his last 90,000. He folded, and the remaining hands were tabled.

Mohan:
Opponent:

Mohan’s pair of nines were in the lead, but he needed to fade the flush draw and overs of his opponent. The river was met with a loud cheer and a fist pump by Mohan, as he scooped the big pot and eliminated a player.

Bridgette Field
Logan Vogt

Shakopee, Minnesota native Bridgette Field raised to 6,000 from UTG, and was called by a player in the hijack, before Logan Vogt of California three-bet jammed for 18,900 from the cutoff. Action folded back to Field, who four-bet jammed for 38,100, and the hijack folded.
