David Pederson Bags Overall Lead As 23 Advance From Day 1A Of MSPT Canterbury Park

Day 1A of MSPT Canterbury Park saw 184 players hit the felt looking for a Day 2 bag, and in the end, only 23 were able to advance, with David Pederson and his bag of 401,000 leading the way. Pederson will be looking for his first MSPT cash.

The rest of the top five include three-time MSPT champ Matt Kirby (344,000), Mark Jaroslawski (292,000), Eric Eelkema (270,000), and two-time MSPT champ Ben Marsh (234,500). Other able to punch their ticket to Day 2 include Alan Carty (198,000), Season 9 MSPT POY Aaron Johnson (141,000), fellow MSPT Hall of Famer Kou Vang (116,000), WSOP Bracelet Winner John Reading (102,500), Season 7 MSPT Meskwaki champ Keith Heine (95,000), and Tom Hammers (60,000).

Not everyone was able to navigate the field and avoid elimination, however. Some of those to fall short of a bag include Season 6 MSPT POY Mark Hodge, “Minnesota” Jon Hanner, Alex “F’n” Winter, young phenoms Ian Matakis and Peyton Smith, MSPT Hall of Famer Rich Alsup, three-time MSPT champ Blake Bohn, two-time MSPT champ Jeremy Dresch, MSPT champs Rob Wazwaz, Jason Seitz, Ben Wiora, Joe Matheson, Brian Soja, “DQ” Dan Hendrickson, and Rodger Johnson.

Day 1B kicks off tomorrow at 3 p.m., and registration is open through the break at Level 12 (approximately 11:40 p.m.). Expected to be in attendance are Madison, Wisconsin’s Craig Trost and Jeff Minnerly, former MSPT champ Ahmed Taleb, and former MSPT Canterbury Park Regional champ Saad Ghanem, in addition to many of the players that failed to find a bag in today’s flight. Aaron Johnson Takes From Keith Heine

Keith Heine and Aaron Johnson both invested 15,500 to see a flop together. Heine bet 20,000 from the lojack, and Johnson thought for a bit before making the call on the button.

The hit the turn, and Heine checked. Johnson bet 15,000, leaving himself about 40,000 behind, and Heine folded.

Tony Hartmann Gets A Double Through John Reading

John Reading raised to 7,000 from the lojack, then quickly called a three-bet shove for 40,000 from Tony Hartmann in the small blind.

Paul Eidem raised to 8,000 from the hijack, and David Pederson called in the big blind.

Pederson checked the flop over to Eidem, who continued for 8,000. Pederson called.

The fell on the turn, and Pederson checked again. Eidem bet 16,000 and Pederson called again.

On the river, both players quickly checked, and Pederson turned over for a flush. Eidem turned over for aces and the nut flush draw on the turn, and Pederson said, “Oh no!” in response to Eidem checking back his aces.

Milton Blasing limped in from UTG+1, as did Tom Hammers in the hijack, before Kyle Sullivan raised to 10,000 in the cutoff. Blasing called and Hammers folded.

Blasing checked a flop to Sullivan, who bet 19,000. Blasing check-raised all in for 38,500 and Sullivan called.

Mark Jaroslawski raised to 5,000 from the button, and Timothy Ling called in the small blind. “DQ” Dan Hendrickson three-bet shoved for 48,500 in the big blind, and after Jaroslawski folded, Long thought for a bit before calling.

The didn’t change much, but the turn gave Hendrickson some chop outs. The river was safe for Ling, and he dispatched the former MSPT champ.
