Lackey Leads The 25 From Day 1B

The second flight of the MSPT $1,600 Venetian Main Event saw a total of 220 entrants throw their hat in the ring to become the next MSPT champion. A total of 25 survivors ended the night and they will join the 16 from the previous flight on Thursday June. 1st.

Leading the way is David Lackey who bagged 706,000. Lackey’s lead did not appear until late into the night when he correctly called an opponent’s bluff for a pot worth 600,000 chips. That hand, which was the second to the last hand of the night, propelled him up the leaderboard to make his first MSPT cash. With over $300,000 in lifetime earnings, the Virginia native is looking to best his highest live cash as he returns to Thursday with the current third largest stack of the tournament.

Also making it through the day is Gerald Morrell (597,000), Josh Foster (482,000), Aaron Massey (333,000), Francis Anderson (170,000), Rob Wazwaz (116,000), and Harry Lodge (20,000). All are looking for their place in MSPT history, Wazwaz and Massey going for their second title each.

Not all were as fortunate as the 25 survivors. Players like Barry Hutter, Nicholas Pupillo, Rich Alsup, Renato Spahiu, David Jackson and 2023 $1,600 MSPT Poker Bowl champion James Romero will have to look to tomorrow’s flight to find an opportunity for the MSPT Venetian crown.

Kyle Frey Sends One Home On The Bubble

Kyle Frey raised to 20,000 in early position which saw another player move all in for 98,000 from the hijack and everyone else folded back to Frey who called.

The board ran out and Frey’s quad queens beat his opponent’s jacks full of queens and he took a boost to his stack in the last hand of the night.

Lackey Takes The Lead

Action was picked up on the turn in a hand going three ways with David Lackey in the small blind.

The board read and Lackey bet 45,000 on the turn which saw the big blind call and the player in the cutoff folded.

The river saw a roll off and Lackey bet 50,000. The big blind raised to 250,000 which saw Lackey contemplate his decision, but he ended up called.

His opponent turned over for a pair of fours and a missed flush draw, while Lackey turned over for aces up with a jack kicker.

Sibischchenko Eliminates One; Hand For Hand Begins

A player moved all in from early position for 48,000 and action folded around to Rostyslav Sabishchenko in the small blind who moved all in for more and the big blind folded.

Morrell In The Lead

Action was picked up with cards on their backs with a pot of 240,000 built up between a player under the gun and Gerald Morrell in the big blind.

The board ran out and the ace-king was not able to best the pocket nines of Gerald Morrell and this February’s MSPT Poker Bowl 5th place finisher takes a massive lead in the field.

Harry Lodge raised to 8,000 in the cutoff and another player moved all in for 76,000. In the small blind Rob Wazwaz moved all in for more and everyone else folded.

The flop peeled off which gave the button a backdoor flush draw, but the made all chance of winning impossible for the button and the MSPT hall of famer was guaranteed the pot before the river peeled off.

Massey Brings The Field Closer

Aaron Massey raised to 8,000 from the hijack and a player in the cutoff moved all in for 58,000 which saw everyone fold back to Massey who asked for a count and then called.

The flop of put Massey in the lead with a pair of kings, but the turn gave his opponent a flush draw. The river did not complete the flush draw and Massey scooped a pot to add to his growing stack.
