John Ypma Bags Overall Chip Lead After 20 Players Survive Day 1C

Day 1c of the MSPT Season 16 Sycuan 100 GRAND STACK Series $1,110 Main Event is in the books after drawing 181 entries, the biggest field of all three starting flights, bringing the overall field up to 417.

At the end of the third and final flight, just 20 players bagged and tagged with John Ypma sitting atop the counts.

After making deep runs in the first two flights, Ypma was able to make this one count as he was able to spin-up a 2,525,000 stack, good enough for the overall chip lead.

The final level of the evening saw an onslaught of casualties which included David Uvaydov, Daria Ivantey and Keith Eoll.

Following behind Ypma was Paul Ewen who put 1,945,000 in his bag to end the night, good enough for third overall heading into Day 2 while Jonathan “Cosmo” McGowan (1,525,000), MSPT champ Savo Mandrapa (1,285,000), & Arturo Ortuno (1,265,000), rounded out the top five stacks of the flight.

They were joined by Michael Kaplitz (1,125,000), Kellan Kemp (1,120,000), Joshua Royal (910,000), Astivan Batoo (805,000), and Leslie Autenreith (715,000).

Among those to try and fall on Day 1c included MSPT champ Brian Landon, Eddie Pilotin, MSPT champ Muneer Ahmed, Reginald Burnley, and Derek Molnar, just to name a few.

The surviving players from all three flights – of which there are 47 (10 from Day 1a, 17 from 1b, and 20 from 1c) – will return at 11:00 a.m. local time on Sunday, May 4^th to play down to a winner.

Keith Eoll was all in preflop from the big blind and was called by Jonathan “Cosmo” McGowan from late position.

Eoll was behind holding suited live cards, only to have an ace appear in the window on the flop.

The dealer then paired the board with the on the turn, leaving Eoll needing a nine on the river to stay alive, but the completed the board and eliminated him on the bubble.

After the elimination of David Uvaydov, just 21 players remain meaning the hand-for-hand process has started.

Ivantey Hooked by Ortuno

Daria Ivantey raised all in for 350,000 from middle position and Arturo Ortuno looked her up from the button.

Wolcyn Loses Big Flip, Ending His Tournament

There was three-way all-in action between Kevin Meyers from late position, Josh Royal the small blind, and Clint Wolcyn from the big blind with Meyers having both players well covered.

Meyers was ahead holding a premium hand of queens but the flop brought a sweat as it gave Wolcyn a wheel draw.

The dealer kept things sweaty with the turn giving Royal a gut shot staright draw, only to drop the on the river as Royal collected a 150,000 triple-up, while Meyers collected Wolcyn’s remaining 360,000.

So far, 27 players have punched their ticket into Day 2, and the final group of 20 hopefuls will look to add their names to that list tonight.

All who make it through until the end of play will return tomorrow, Sunday, May 4^th at 11:00 a.m. for Day 2, where the remaining players from all starting flights will combine and play until a winner is declared.

Eisher Eliminated by Ypma in a Battle of the Blinds

There was heads-up action after a flop between MSPT champ Noel Eisher from the small blind and John Ypma from the big blind.

Eisher led out with a 30,000 bet and Ypma called bringing the turn.

A 55,000 bet was then tossed in the middle by Eisher and Ypma made the call to see the complete the board on the river.

Eisher kept his foot on the pedal, leading out with a 110,000 bet, only to call off his remaining stack after Ypma put him all in.

Ypma tabled for jacks full of threes and it was good as Eisher rolled over for the inferior full house, ending his night.
